AISIN Electronics Illinois Partners with SIU to Advance Team Member Education and Career Development

At AISIN Electronics Illinois (AEIL), we are deeply committed to the advancement of our Team Members. Through an exciting partnership with Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the AISIN Engineering Education Program offers current AEIL employees the opportunity to earn an accredited degree in engineering-related fields while gaining hands-on experience at our facility. This program reflects our dedication to empowering our workforce with the knowledge and skills to thrive in the ever-evolving electronics manufacturing industry.

Selected employees will have the unique opportunity to work three days a week at AEIL, attend SIU courses on the remaining days, and be compensated for all five workdays. In addition to covering tuition, fees, and materials, AEIL provides transportation support, including access to a company vehicle for commuting to SIU. Upon successful graduation, participants will transition to engineering roles within the company, with competitive pay reflecting their enhanced qualifications.

This partnership not only reinforces our long-standing relationship with SIU but also underscores our belief in investing in the future of our Team Members. By combining practical experience with academic achievement, AEIL is proud to offer a program that bridges the gap between education and industry success.

SIU, AISIN partner to provide engineering students with degrees, experience

By Tim Crosby

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The School of Applied Engineering and Technology in the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology and Mathematics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is cooperating with a local electronics manufacturer to train potential workers.

The university and AISIN Electronics Illinois, LLC (AEIL), based in Marion, have developed a partnership that would pay students to work at AISIN while earning a degree in a variety of industrial management and engineering fields of study. The first 14 students signed up during a recruiting event on Nov. 18.

“The School of Applied Engineering and Technology has had a long-standing relationship with AISIN Electronics Illinois,” said Tomas Velasco, professor and director of the school, who helped organize the program. “The current management of AISIN Electronics Illinois is committed to providing its employees with the opportunity to earn a degree. This will give our students hands-on experience and show them how their instruction applies beyond the classroom.”

Sweet Appreciation at AISIN Electronics Illinois!

AISIN Electronics Illinois (AEIL) always finds unique ways to celebrate and recognize its dedicated team members. Originally, AEIL planned a “Candy Apple Day” for November 13th, offering caramel apple treats to everyone as a festive fall gesture. The excitement was building as each team member looked forward to their choice of a plain caramel apple or one with nuts.

However, due to the recent hype surrounding the 85th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, there has been an unexpected shortage of apples! Not to let this small setback hinder our appreciation efforts, AEIL has adapted with a sweet alternative.

On Friday, November 15th, team members can now enjoy a delicious treat from Blondie’s Bakery. Everyone is invited to choose either a cupcake or a brownie to savor, keeping the spirit of appreciation alive and well. Don’t miss out on this chance to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our amazing team!

2020 AHA Launch Award

AMI was presented with the AHA Launch Award for the implementation of the 550B Panoramic Sunroof. The AMI sunroof department began testing of the sunroof in November 2019 and began production in January 2020. Today, AMI produces roughly 250 550B panoramic sunroofs a day between 2 shifts. These sunroofs are installed on the Toyota Highlander.

This is a monumental accomplishment for AMI as it’s the first AHA Launch Award we’ve received. Several departments had a hand in the development of this product. From engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, and logistics; This was a great effort given by all departments.

Thank you and congratulations to all our team members for their hard work.

Amazing Collaboration between AMI and AEIL!

ONE Aisin Family: Aisin plants collaborate to provide PPE support for local hospital

Two Aisin plants have joined together to help ease the pressure of PPE shortages at an Illinois hospital. AISIN Electronics Illinois (AEIL) and AISIN Manufacturing Illinois (AMI) reached out to Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) after it was determined that facial protective gear was an immediate need.

Both AEIL and AMI have 3D printing capabilities and quickly started prototyping facemasks and face shield models. AMI supplied the parts for the shield; and AEIL supplied the chin straps. Engineers tested the 3D printed parts for fit and function and after the proper PPE models were finalized, two facemask models and one face shield model were submitted to SIH. The face shield model was selected and 50 were produced and delivered to an appreciative SIH.

Special thanks to Dennis Putman and Bill Bledsoe for leading their prospective teams in this venture and the strong character, work ethic and community mindedness of the AISIN Marion team members for making this contribution possible.

2019 AMI Food Drive Competition

Throughout the month of November, AMI collected canned goods through our AMI Food Drive Competition. Advisor groups throughout AMI competed against one another to win a free dinner. Once the numbers were finalized, AMI collected 3,924 cans. The winning advisor group was Ann Stewart’s group in 3 Pillar.

All the cans were then delivers to the Veteran Food Pantry located at the Marion Veterans Hospital. The canned food items were donated and then dispersed throughout Southern Illinois to Veterans.

Thank you to all that participated. Your support is greatly appreciated.

2019 Aisin Fall CleanUp

On Saturday, October 12th, Aisin hosted the 16th Annual Fall Aisin Mile Clean Up. The clean up consists of AMI, ALM, and AEIL coming together to clean up the grounds of Redco Drive and a portion of DeYoung Street (Highway 13) that we adopted. Between all three plants, 150 team members and their families came out to help with the event. The event was a great success with the grounds being fully cleaned in just a couple of hours. Thank you to all that came out to participate.

AMI Work Study Program

Aisin Manufacturing Illinois (AMI) has recently partnered with local schools in Galatia and Eldorado to develop a work study program. Select high school students have been placed in various departments to help familiarize them to the manufacturing world. Our hope is that this program will help students gain valuable work experience, and that the real-world experiences they are exposed to will contribute to their transition plans as they prepare for adulthood. The selected high school Junior and Senior students work Monday through Friday for a maximum of 4 hours a day. These students are trained on processes that manufacture sunroof and outside door handle components. They work side-by-side our trained staff of team members as we help to provide practical work and career-related experiences.

The students were provided an orientation and dojo experience, just like that of which we provide to our normal new hires. Our dojo helps to identify their skills so that the students are placed in positions that can take advantage of their natural skills such as time-management, hand-eye coordination, and dexterity. For high school students, it’s important to expose them to new experiences that help to give them an idea of what they want to do after high school. This work study program does just that— students are given a firsthand look at the working community so they can better understand how they’d like to be involved and the responsibilities related to their job/career placement.

2019 Pallet Palooza

To help keep our pallets out of landfills, we asked the Team Members at AMI to re-purpose our pallets in this year’s Pallet Palooza contest! Although it was difficult to pick winners from all of the great projects, one entry stood out from the rest. Coming in at first place was Larry Whisler! Larry created a stunning Harley Davidson Bench. The bench featured a working cooler, bottle opener, and hand carved embellishments!

AMI Gauging Team Advances to Japan
